Edema Surrounding Benign Tumors and Tumor-Like Lesions

Abstract: Objective To explore the incidence and significance of intra- and extra-osseous edema associated with benign tumors and tumor-like diseases. Methods Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data from 300 benign osseous tumors and tumor-like diseases diagnosed by pathology were retrospectively reviewed. Borderline tumors, cases associated with pathological fractures, and skull lesions were excluded from the study. Bone marrow and soft tissue edema were defined on T2WI with fat suppression on MRI in all cases. The incid… Show more

“…e tibia has an irregular characteristic, which is the body's maximum flat bone, which is a large number of bone tumors, with the proportion of metastasis than being relatively high, and other bone marrow tumors, bone malignant lymphoma [7][8][9]. Clinical data show that the incidence of ilibular disease in the primary malignant bone tumor is about 9.6%, of which the patient is high in chondrosatoma is high, and it is an osteosarcoma, and Juventi meat [10][11][12].…”

“…Some authors claim that MR imaging of osteoblastoma can be misleading, with peritumoral inflammation mimicking malignant behavior [5,6]. Gao and Kroon H.M [24,25] noted that edema was not a specific indicator of malignant bone tumors, and it was also associated with benign bone tumors and tumor-like diseases. Although many kinds of primary bone tumors may be surrounded with edema in the background, only a few of them showed moderate or extensive BME together with STE.…”

“…Osteoid osteom salgıladığı prostaglandin sebebiyle MRG'de yaygın kemik iliği ödemine neden olmaktadır. Bu nedenle yaygın kemik iliği ödemi saptanan olgularda bu ayırıcı tanıların düşünülmesi önemlidir (Gao, Zhou, Xu, & Chen, 2019).…”
