EDDA: An Efficient Distributed Data Replication Algorithm in VANETs

Abstract: Efficient data dissemination in vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) is a challenging issue due to the dynamic nature of the network. To improve the performance of data dissemination, we study distributed data replication algorithms in VANETs for exchanging information and computing in an arbitrarily-connected network of vehicle nodes. To achieve low dissemination delay and improve the network performance, we control the number of message copies that can be disseminated in the network and then propose an efficie… Show more

“…The IEEE 802.11p standard is a shortwave communications standard that is extensively employed for vehicle-to-vehicle communication in CACC systems. Many research investigations [8][9][10][11] have focused on vehicleto-vehicle communications to enhance the safety and performance of autonomous vehicle systems. In addition, MPC with the SA-PSO algorithm, which was proposed for the CACC system, effectively resolved the non-linearity issue, resulting in improved distance between vehicles [12].…”

“…Zeng et al [30] proposed a channel prediction-based scheduling strategy for cooperative data dissemination in VANET, which reduces communication overhead and the data dissemination delay. Zhu et al [31] proposed a distributed data replication algorithm with the idea of letting the data carrier distribute the data dissemination tasks to multiple nodes to speed up the dissemination process.…”

“…We denote by the maximum time difference between the clocks that these vehicles have. For the sake of presentation simplicity, we also assume access to a time yet unreliable dissemination protocol, such as [ 21 , 22 , 23 , 24 , 25 ]. Namely, the algorithm code of vehicle in members uses to broadcast message m to all vehicles in the set of members within a known end-to-end delay, D (that can be omitted from the network in an arbitrary manner).…”
