Ectopic Pancreas in the Stomach Successfully Resected by Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection

Abstract: A 32-year-old Japanese man presented with a gastric submucosal tumor. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy showed a sessile submucosal tumor measuring approximately 10 mm in diameter on the greater curvature of the gastric antrum. Endoscopic ultrasonography examination revealed a solid tumor with a diameter of 11.8 mm, which was located in the deep mucosal and submucosal layers. The internal echogenicity was homogenous and hypoechoic. Biopsy examinations were performed twice but were not diagnostic since only the intact… Show more

“…Endoscopic submucosal resection 28 and a band ligation assisted endoscopic mucosal resection technique assisting the resection have been successfully described, not without complications. 29 The main limitation of our study is the lack of histologic confirmation in all cases since we do not routinely perform biopsies or prophylactic resection. Therefore, the diagnosis is proposed on the endoscopic images.…”

“…Among the endoscopic techniques for the clinical treatment of GISTs, ESD is the most widely used and can achieve complete resection (29). EFR is a derivative of ESD that can completely remove lesions from all layers, including the serosal layer (30).…”

“…The feasibility, safety and oncological outcome of this technique for unfavourably located GISTs remain unclear [ 17 ]. Endoscopic resection is an emerging treatment modality for GIST, using endoscopic band ligation (EBL), endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) [ 18 ], endoscopic submucosal excavation (ESE), endoscopic full-thickness resection (EFTR) and submucosal tunneling endoscopic resection (STER) [ 19 ]. The wide adoption of these techniques is currently hampered by the relatively high perforation risk which could lead to peritoneal seeding and uncertainty regarding the rate of R0 resection [ 20 ].…”
