Economic Emission Load Dispatch with Multiple Fuel Options Using Cuckoo Search Algorithm with Gaussian and Cauchy Distributions

Abstract: Cuckoo Search Algorithm (CSA), a new meta-heuristic algorithm based on natural phenomenon of Cuckoo species and Lévy flights random walk, has been successfully applied to several optimization problems so far. In the paper two modified versions of CSA, where new solutions are generated using two distributions including Gaussian and Cauchy distributions are proposed for economic emission load dispatch (EELD) problem with multiple fuel options. The advantages of CSA with Gaussian distribution (CSA-Gauss) and CSA … Show more

“…Sang Dang Ho et al propose a Cuckoo Search Algorithm with Cauchy distribution and Gaussian distribution, which have been combined for solving economic emission load dispatch problem with multiple fuel options. The advantages of the methods it uses few parameter and high success rate [27]. Luo, et al reduce the total costs using set of quasi-linear equations, resulting in a solution form similar to that of an electric network.…”

“…Marichelvam, Prabaharan, and Yang (2014) developed a new heuristic, namely NEH combined with an improved CS to solve the realindustrial scheduling problem. Ho, Vo, Le, and Nguyen (2014) used two distribution, including Cauchy and Gaussian distributions for solving the economic emission load dispatch problem with multiple fuel options. The proposed CS was achieved better cost computational processes when compared to Lévy CS.…”

“…It is modelled in such a way that the power generated with the plants' constant coefficients are represented using quadratic polynomial function [13]. The fuel cost curve of non-convex ELD is smooth convex while convex ELD has non-smooth (non-linear cost curves)fuel cost due to the inclusion of the above peculiar characteristics of a thermal generator [14,15]. ELD problem can be solved either by ignoring transmission loss or inclusion of transmission losses [16][17][18].…”
