Economic efficiency evaluation system of maritime container terminals

Abstract: Motivation: Maritime container terminals play an important role in global as well as local supply chains. Especially, maritime container terminals can be perceived as essential transhipment points, which integrate other transport modes through a set of management (e.g. planning, controlling) and executive activities (e.g. reloading, handling). All these activities require the support of an adequate management system, focusing on continuous improvement of the maritime container economic efficiency. To meet this… Show more

“…Implementation of the efficiency evaluation system of a maritime container terminal, which consists of four mutually correlated modules [14] can provide more data concerning operations and strategical, tactical, and operational plans, which can also are transferable to the services and the quality of them. Moreover one of the modules in the system is the control tower module, which main target is to constantly control the actions of the terminal.…”

“…The possibility of frequent adjustments of operational objectives requires the ability to the agile adaptation and quick response to dynamically changing conditions. Reports, as well as related actions, should be taken almost immediately after operational objectives modifications and just as fast as the case of variation between objectives and results occurs [14].…”

“…Restricting the search formula to the keywords "sustainability" plus "maritime" and "management" yielded 22 publications. Since the port reference model is very generic [15], it may not necessarily be searched for using the word "sustainability". Therefore, by changing the search formula to "TI = (reference model AND port management) OR AK = (reference model AND port management)" returned one publication entitled "Development of Online Reference Model for the Logistics Information Standard" [16].…”

“…Since around 80% of the international trade volume in goods is carried by sea in containers, ports/container terminals (hereinafter called 'terminals') are playing a crucial role in global logistics trade imposing a constant need for improvement in their overall performance [2][3][4]. Due to the increasing demand in maritime freight transport, the development of logistics, as well as stronger land transport connections and global competition, have encouraged the modernization of cargo handling technologies [1,5,6]. Accordingly, the increasing demand has imposed the emergence of building modern container ships, resulting in transformations of port infrastructure and superstructure becoming a key factor in achieving efficiency [7,8].…”
