Economic development trends in the EU tourism industry. Towards the digitalization process and sustainability

Abstract: From an economic viewpoint, tourism is heralded as bringing income to local communities. From an ecological standpoint, tourism poses a threat to environments. Sustainable tourism should leave a minimum negative impact on the places visited and preferably have rather positive impact on society. The digitization of the tourism economy is conducive to increasing the efficiency of enterprises operations, but also have positive impact on consumers. The objectives of the study are: to seek an answer to the question… Show more

“…Thus, administrations and public authorities are responsible for developing the necessary infrastructures and public services, together with the legal framework, that allow the advancement of tourism and hospitality firms towards sustainability and future development. Specifically, public administrations can contribute to sustainability in the hospitality and tourism sector by encouraging: tourism and hospitality firms digitalization, because of its implications for overall efficiency in the management and consumption of resources (Filipiak et al , 2020); the improvement of infrastructures in destinations, paying special attention to sustainable mobility; the diversification of the offer, including the design of new flagship tourism products and experiences with high sustainability standards (e.g. rural tourism), which contribute to the generation of new employment opportunities and territorial cohesion (i.e.…”

“…Based on the above research results, we can know that in the current research on tourism and economic growth, in the mainstream analysis models of tourism economic growth (mainly based on neural network algorithm or particle swarm optimization algorithm), most of them need to set the known data gradient interval as a priori information [18][19][20]. On the other hand, in the quantitative evaluation of tourism economic development, most economic development analysis models need to summarize the industrial data of different ranges first and then conduct unified analysis and processing, which leads to the overall analysis efficiency becoming very low [21,22]. Therefore, it is of great significance to study the correlation analysis method between tourism and economic growth based on computable general equilibrium model.…”

“…Therefore, it is important to focus on sustainability in tourism. Reasons such as the deterioration of the ecological balance due to global warming, the loss of social values, and the inability to protect natural, historical, social and cultural assets make sustainable tourism a necessity (Kişi, 2019;Filipiak et al, 2020).…”
