“…Just seven species have described larvae. Two are North American species, T. (V.) arctica Curtis, 1835 and T. “…The immature stages develop in terrestrial habitats such as the uppermost layer of soil under leaf or needle litter, or under mosses (Chiswell 1956;Rogers 1942;Theowald 1967;Teale and Gelhaus 1984;Lantsov 2003;Podeniene 2003). Larvae of T. (Vestiplex) are easily recognized because of a brown band separating the anus from the anal papillae.…”

“…The species group caucasica was first proposed by Savchenko (1964) to comprise four species endemic to the Caucasus. A number of subsequent studies have been published since on the diversity and ecology of some species of the subgenus Lunatipula from the Caucasus ( Lantsov 1998 , 2002 , 2007 , 2018 ). In this study we present new data on the taxonomic status, morphology, and distribution of the caucasica species group, provide a key to all currently known species, and describe Tipula eleniya Lantsov & Pilipenko as new to science.…”

“…However, many common species are characterized there as "widespread in the European part," without specific regions given. Cranefly has been intensively studied recently in the European part and in other regions of Russia (Barkalov and Saaya 2014;Krivosheina 2009; Krivosheina andKrivosheina 2010, 2019;Lantsov 2009aLantsov , 2009bLantsov , 2009cLantsov , 2011aLantsov , 2011bLantsov , 2011cLantsov , 2012aLantsov , 2012bLantsov , 2012cLantsov , 2014aLantsov , 2014bLantsov , 2014cLantsov , 2015aLantsov , 2015bLantsov , 2016Lantsov , 2017aLantsov , 2017bLantsov , 2017cLantsov , 2018Lantsov , 2019Lantsov and Bibin 2019;Paramonov 2006Paramonov , 2011Paramonov , 2012Paramonov , 2014Paramonov , 2016Paramonov , 2017Paramonov , 2018Pilipenko 2008Pilipenko , 2009Paramonov and Klepikov 2014;Paramonov and Pilipenko 2016;Polevoi and Salmela 2014;Polevoi and Pilipenko 2016;Polevoi et al 2018;Przhiboro 2003Przhiboro , 2009Przhiboro ,...…”
