The contemporary literature has largely addressed corporate social responsibility (CSR) at the macro or institutional level, whereas its effect at the micro-level is largely ignored. In addition, contemporary researchers have also ignored the importance of employee pro-environmental behavior to reduce the environmental footprint of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). With this background, the present study attempts to decrease the environmental footprint of the SME sector of China by implementing CSR at the micro-level through the involvement of employees because employees spend a significant amount of their time at workplaces, and hence their environment-related behavior may significantly contribute to improve the natural environment. In this regard, here we examined the impact of the micro-foundation of CSR on SMEs' environmental performance with mediating effect of employees’ pro-environmental behavior. The data were collected from the different organizations in China. Our sample constitutes a supervisor–subordinate dyad from which we collected 562 filled questionnaires (281 from each). We used the structural equation modeling technique using AMOS software for data analysis, the results show that CSR, directly and indirectly, through employee’s pro-environmental behavior affects the environmental performance of SMEs, and employee pro-environmental behavior partially mediates this relationship. The findings of the present study are helpful for policymakers of the SME sector of China to address widespread environmental issues caused by their business operations.

Heavy metal pollution has become more and more serious with industrial development and resource exploitation. Because heavy metal ions are difficult to be biodegraded, they accumulate in the human body and cause serious threat to human health. However, the conventional methods to detect heavy metal ions are more strictly to the requirements by detection equipment, sample pretreatment, experimental environment, etc. Aptasensor has the advantages of strong specificity, high sensitivity and simple preparation to detect small molecules, which provides a new direction platform in the detection of heavy metal ions. This paper reviews the selection of aptamers as target for heavy metal ions since the 21th century and aptasensors application for detection of heavy metal ions that were reported in the past five years. Firstly, the selection methods for aptamers with high specificity and high affinity are introduced. Construction methods and research progress on sensor based aptamers as recognition element are also introduced systematically. Finally, the challenges and future opportunities of aptasensors in detecting heavy metal ions are discussed.

In this study, based on the multi-source nature and humanities data of 270 Chinese cities from 2007 to2018, the spatio-temporal evolution characteristics of SO2 emissions are revealed by using Moran’s I, a hot spot analysis, kernel density, and standard deviation ellipse models. The spatial scale heterogeneity of influencing factors is explored by using the multiscale geographically weighted regression model to make the regression results more accurate and reliable. The results show that (1) SO2 emissions showed spatial clustering characteristics during the study period, decreased by 85.12% through pollution governance, and exhibited spatial heterogeneity of differentiation. (2) The spatial distribution direction of SO2 emissions’ standard deviation ellipse in cities was “northeast–southwest”. The gravity center of the SO2 emissions shifted to the northeast, from Zhumadian City to Zhoukou City in Henan Province. The results of hot spots showed a polarization trend of “clustering hot spots in the north and dispersing cold spots in the south”. (3) The MGWR model is more accurate than the OLS and classical GWR regressions. The different spatial bandwidths have a different effect on the identification of influencing factors. There were several main influencing factors on urban SO2 emissions: the regional innovation and entrepreneurship level, government intervention, and urban precipitation; important factors: population intensity, financial development, and foreign direct investment; secondary factors: industrial structure upgrading and road construction. Based on the above conclusions, this paper explores the spatial heterogeneity of urban SO2 emissions and their influencing factors, and provides empirical evidence and reference for the precise management of SO2 emission reduction in “one city, one policy”.
