The proliferation of globalisation and e-commerce has led to an increasing number of warehousing facilities in cities and regions, which may contribute to the negative externalities of air pollution, noise pollution, and traffic congestion. Despite the close relationship between logistics and different sectors of the economy, there is a paucity of literature on the connection between warehousing and different land-use categories. Focusing on the City of Cape Town municipality in South Africa, the article aims to analyse the locational patterns of warehousing facilities relative to the transport infrastructure and the industrial, retail, and office land use. The study was based on a descriptive quantitative design wherein kernel density was employed in ArcGIS to analyse the locational patterns of warehousing facilities across the municipality. Data on the floor area of the industrial, retail, and office land use were classified into several ranges to ascertain the intensity of the land use relative to the concentration of the warehousing facilities. It was discovered that warehousing facilities cluster in the highly accessible areas within the municipality, namely the port’s environs, in the vicinity of the main junctions, and adjacent to arterial roads, which provide connections to the national roads. The areas with the highest concentration of warehousing facilities also accommodated the most significant percentage of industrial and retail land use. It is recommended that the existing warehousing clusters be prioritised in future warehousing development or consolidation, and that the future increase of the industrial and retail land use within the City of Cape Town municipality include a commensurate increase of space for warehousing facilities or vice versa.

Improving industrial ecological efficiency is important in promoting the industry’s sustainable development. However, the economy, resources, the environment, and other factors should be considered. This paper proposes a data-driven evaluation and promotion method for improving industrial ecological efficiency. Based on industrial input and output data, the super-efficiency slack-based model containing an unexpected output was used to measure industrial ecological efficiency. The kernel density estimation method was employed to analyze the time-series characteristics of industrial ecological efficiency. Using data from 30 provinces and cities in China, this study demonstrated the implementation of a data-driven method. The results show that China’s overall industrial ecological efficiency is increasing, and industrial ecological efficiency in the western region is rapidly improving. Differences exist between provinces and cities; the characteristics of polarization are significant, and there are short boards in the eastern, central, and western regions. Based on this, suggestions are made to improve the industrial ecological efficiency of the central region, narrow the gaps between the regions, and promote each region to develop its strengths and mitigate its weaknesses. This provides a basis for formulating policies related to ecological environment protection and industrial pollution control.

The ecological efficiency of industrial linkage considering unexpected output is an important indicator to measure the coordinated development of industrial linkage, resources, and the environment. It is an important basis for realizing the sustainable development of industry linkage. Taking the composite index of carbon emissions of the logistics industry and pollution emissions of the manufacturing industry as the unexpected output, we used the unexpected SBM model to evaluate the ecological efficiency of industrial linkage between the logistics industry and the manufacturing industry in Northeast China from 2011 to 2019, and used the spatial autocorrelation analysis method to analyze the spatial differences in industrial linkage efficiency. The results show that (1) considering the unexpected output, in Northeast China, the ecological efficiency cannot reach a high level of linkage development stage. (2) The results of the spatial correlation show that there are spatial differences between H-H agglomeration and L-L agglomeration in the linkage ecological efficiency of the two industries, and the spatial agglomeration attribute is relatively stable. (3) The analysis results of spatial agglomeration characteristics show that the spatial agglomeration of the two industries has a spatial evolution process from the southern coastal area to the central region. (4) Spatial trend analysis shows that in Northeast China, the western region is slightly higher than the eastern region, while the southern region is higher than the northern region. (5) From the development trend of linkage ecological efficiency, the linkage ecological efficiency of the study area will be improved in the future, but in the short term, the linkage ecological development level is not high and may still be at the primary linkage level.
