Abstract: The recently discovered Type 9 Secretion System (T9SS) is present in bacteria of the Fibrobacteres–Bacteroidetes–Chlorobi superphylum, which are key constituents of diverse microbiomes. T9SS is instrumental in the extracellular secretion of over 270,000 proteins, including peptidases, sugar hydrolases, metal ion‐binding proteins, and metalloenzymes.
