Ecological and chemical characteristics of small river Arguzikha (Zeya-Bureya plain, Russia)

Abstract: The article considers the results of research from 2015 to 2019 on the study of hydrochemical indicators and the content of heavy metals in the ecosystem components of the small Arguzikha river , a left-Bank tributary of the Amur river (water, bottom sediments, macrophytes, birds ’ feathers). High oxygen content in the water (8.8-15.9 mgO2/dm3) and high BOD5 values (6-12 mgO2/dm3) in the middle and lower reaches of the Arguzikha river indicate the process of eutrophication. The value of permanganate oxidabilit… Show more

“…Specific electrical conductivity (SEC) of water was 39.4 -60.8 S / cm in May, 24.2 -36.2 S / cm in July which indicates low mineralization. The waters of small rivers in this region are low-mineralized and soft [3][4][5]. The color of the Zavitaya River water was within the range of 12 color degrees in spring and up to 83 degrees (Cr-Co) in summer.…”

“…As a result of natural landscapes transformation due to massive plowing of lands in the floodplains of the rivers of the Zeya-Bureya Plain and deforestation, the water quality of small rivers has changed. In small rivers the content of biogenic compounds has increased and organic matter accumulated [3][4][5]. The hydrological and hydrochemical behaviour of small rivers depend on various factors, including the intensity of their watersheds development.…”
