“…Water quality improvement by the use of wetlands has been broadly discussed (Bastian and Hammer, 1993;Raisin and Mitchell, 1995;Nairn and Mitsch, 2000;Trepel and Kluge, 2002;Mitsch et al, 2005;Mitsch and Gosselink, 2007;Mitsch et al, 2009), especially the importance of natural floodplains for river self-purification and freshwater quality protection (Bayley, 1995;Loeb and Lamers, 2003;Zalewski 2006;Kiedrzyńska et al 2008a;Kiedrzyńska et al 2008b).
