Ecofunctional enzymes of microbial communities in ground water

Abstract: Biolog technology was initially developed as a rapid, broad spectrum method for the biochemical identification of clinical microorganisms. Demand and creative application of this technology has resulted in the development of Biolog plates for Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, for yeast and Lactobacillus sp. Microbial ecologists have extended the use of these plates from the identification of pure culture isolates to a tool for quantifying the metabolic patterns of mixed cultures, consortia and entire m… Show more

“…Microbial community was assessed using Biolog Ecoplates (Biolog Inc., Hayward, CA, USA), which have been used elsewhere to show changes in microbial functional diversity in aquatic environments (e.g., Fliermans et al, 1997; Lee et al, 2010). The method measures microbial activity through carbon utilization (Preston‐Mafham et al, 2002).…”

“…So called community-level physiological profiling (e.g. Biolog TM Ecoplates) has been used to successfully indicate differences between polluted and non-polluted groundwater samples (Fliermans et al, 1997;Röling et al, 2000;de Lipthay et al, 2004).…”
