Eco-friendly date-seed nanofillers for polyethylene terephthalate composite reinforcement

Abstract: Polymer composites have been widely exploited in numerous industries. Micro-particle fillers are typically added as reinforcement materials to improve the characteristics of these composites. In this work, organic nanoparticles of date seeds were added as a filler for polyethylene terephthalate (PET) to produce enhanced polymer nanocomposites. A date-seed nanofiller (DSN) was prepared and examined with x-ray diffraction measurements, and then added to PET by hot compression. The characteristics of the PET-DSN … Show more

“…Date seeds particles were obtained from Laboratory, University of Beni-Suef, DS were prepared details of processing are mentioned in Elkhouly et al 36 The particle diameter was 22-25 nm. Date seeds were introduced as reinforcement of both the MDP and the PET materials to enhance the mechanical properties of the composite.…”

“…35 As well, Nano-scale date-seed particles have been used as fillers for polyethylene polymers. For example, Elkhouly et al 36 investigated organic date-seed nanoparticles (DSN) as fillers for PET matrix materials to generate enhanced polymer nanocomposites. The results showed improved mechanical properties with the addition of a DSN reinforcement of 0.75 wt%.…”

“…Therefore, the values of tensile strength of TPVs significantly reduced with the increase of impregnation of epoxy resin. All the same, the tensile strength of TPV 8 still reached 67 MPa, which is significantly higher than the values of the transparent plastic substrates used in flexible electronic devices (such as polyethylene terephthalate, whose the tensile strength is around 50 MPa [43]).…”
