Echographische Diagnostik bei Erkrankungen der ableitenden Tränenwege

Abstract: We report the results of our echographic examinations of 250 patients with diseases of the lacrimal drainage system. First, normal A- and B-scan pictures are presented. Then the echographic criteria of malformations (persistence of the valve of Hasner, dacryocystocele), dacryocystitis and its complications (fistula, membrane-formation, stenosis) are discussed. The possibility of pre- and postoperative controls with echography is stressed. Tumors of the lacrimal sac can also easily be detected.

“…In order to exclude the possibility of a tumour in the lacrimal passage or a pathological change in the sinuses, a standardized A-scan echography (Rochels et al, 1984) and a sinus X-ray must be made., Scrapings are taken from the contents of the lacrimal sac and an antibiogram is made in order to enable an adequate antibiotic treatment. “…Ultrasound diagnostics can also be used [3,5,7,8,10]. It is important that most ophthalmologic ultrasound equipment is suitable in the diagnostics of the lacrimal sac diseases.…”

“…Slit lamp examination of the lacrimal puncta, the conjunctiva and of the anterior segment of the globe is the first step [8], followed by the lacrimal puncture excursion test [9], the canaliculus test [10], the Jones-test one and two [11], the diagnostic syringing of the lacrimal pathways [12], the standardized A-scan echography [13] and dacryocystography [14]. Is it often useful to provide a rhinological status additionally [15].…”
