“…In the majority of reported cases thus far, PDA has been surgically closed by ligation or open-heart surgery. 9 In the present case, surgical closure should be considered in the future, although the patient was successfully treated using only antibiotics and the bacterial vegetation that was complicated by pulmonary embolism was completely diminished. Surgical closure is now pending due to the patient's request.…”

“…Therefore, despite being infrequent, the accumulation of adult PDA‐IE cases is important for establishing evidence concerning the optimal treatment in its secondary prevention. In the majority of reported cases thus far, PDA has been surgically closed by ligation or open‐heart surgery 9 . In the present case, surgical closure should be considered in the future, although the patient was successfully treated using only antibiotics and the bacterial vegetation that was complicated by pulmonary embolism was completely diminished.…”

“…The risk of arterial infection endarteritis in patients with PDA has decreased because of improved dental and health care, widespread use of broad-spectrum antibiotics, and increased frequency of PDA closure using an interventional occluder device [ 1 ]. However, endarteritis can still occur, particularly with a small or silent PDA [ Figure 5 ] [ 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 ]. Turbulent flow secondary to abrupt change in diameter and pressure through the small PDA may lead to formation of endarteritis at the pulmonic end of PDA.…”

“…After receiving 6 weeks of antibiotics per MSSA endocarditis guidelines, 1 he underwent catheterization-based PDA closure with a 4-mm Amplatzer Vascular Plug II (Abbott). Although there are no specific guidelines for PDA closure after infective endarteritis, Saucedo-Orozco et al 2 summarized multiple papers describing patients from 1985 to 2020 with PDA-associated infective endarteritis. In 50 of 58 (86%) patients, definitive surgical or catheterization-based ductus arteriosus closure was performed after receiving antibiotics, consistent with our patient’s treatment plan.…”
