Echinophora tenuifolia subsp. sibthorpiana—Study of the Histochemical Localization of Essential Oil

Abstract: Background: Echinophora tenuifolia L. subsp. sibthorpiana is a perennial, aromatic plant used in traditional folk medicine and cuisine of the Mediterranean and the Middle East. However, scholars have not fully studied the pharmacological potential of the herb, and the scientific data on this plant species are limited. This study aimed to evaluate the chemical composition of the essential oil (EO) obtained from the aerial parts of E. tenuifolia subsp. sibthorpiana growing wild in Bulgaria and to perform histoch… Show more

“…The main compounds found in the EO of E. tenuifolia subsp. sibthorpiana are methyl eugenol, δ-3-carene, α-phellandrene, as well as p -cymen, with the differences in their content in EOs from different geographical regions being mainly quantitative [ 4 , 5 , 6 , 37 , 38 , 39 , 40 , 41 , 42 , 43 , 44 , 45 ]. The phenylpropanoid methyl eugenol was found to be the major constituent in EOs from Bulgaria [ 5 ], Iran [ 37 ], Republic of North Macedonia [ 6 ], and Turkey [ 41 ].…”
