ECaD: Energy‐efficient routing in flying ad hoc networks

Abstract: Summary Much progress can be expected in the domain of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) communication by the next decade. The cooperation between multiple UAVs in the air exchanging data among themselves can naturally form a flying ad hoc network (FANET). Such networks can be the key support to accomplish several kinds of missions while providing the required assistance to terrestrial networks. However, they are confronted with many challenges and difficulties, which are due to the high mobility of UAVs, the freq… Show more

“…Batteries are often used to power the energy propulsion and on-board electronics of UAVs. The consumed energy of UAVs depends on their movement, circuit power, and transmission power consumption [105], [106]. Also, it was demonstrated in [107] that the energy consumed during the communication process can significantly limit the flying time of UAVs by nearly 16%.…”

“…Besides, problem of previous unmanned aerial systems was the mere attempt on eliminating a single attack type and were only resistant to it. If the system was subject to combined attack, it would be practically inoperative, and the intrusion operation would fail the system quickly [4][5][6][7][8].…”

“…These works aim to solve the reliable data delivery problem in the UAV-assisted ground networks. Further, with an increasing interest in practical system issues, recent works have considered restricted energy capacity of UAVs [15], [16], [21].…”
