In this paper, new integration methods for stiff ordinary differential equations (ODEs) are developed. Following the idea of quantization-based integration (QBI), i.e., replacing the time discretization by state quantization, the proposed algorithms generalize the idea of linearly implicit algorithms. Also, the implementation of the new algorithms in a DEVS simulation tool is discussed. The efficiency of these new methods is verified by comparing their performance in the simulation of two benchmark problems with that of other numerical stiff ODE solvers. In particular, the advantages of these new algorithms for the simulation of electronic circuits are demonstrated.

O objetivo deste trabalho,é apresentar a ferramenta de modelagem computacional denominada SimQuest, e discutir algumas das possibilidades do seu uso como ferramenta auxiliar no ensino de física. Como característica principal, o SimQuest possibilita a construção de objetos de aprendizagem com inúmeros recursos gráficos e uma interação amigável. Outra caracterísitica interessante do Simquest,é a alteração em tempo real dos parâmetros que envolvem o problema analisado. Estes elementos básicos de uma simulação, credenciam o uso do SimQuest como uma importante ferramentano ensino de física. Para ilustrar o potencial do SimQuest, apresentamos os objetos de aprendizagem de dois problemas complexos no ensino de física, o pêndulo duplo e o atrator de Lorenz. Palavras-chave: SimQuest, objetos de aprendizagem, ensino de física, modelagem computacional, simulações.In this paper, we present the computational modelling tool called SimQuest discussing some of the possibilities of its use as an auxiliary tool in the teaching of physics. As a main feature, the SimQuest allows the construction of learning objects with various graphics and a friendly interface. Another interesting feature is the possibility of changing the parameters of the problem analyzed in real time. These basic elements make real the possibility of using SimQuest as an important tool in the teaching of physics. To illustrate the potential of SimQuest, we present the learning objects of two complex problems in physics education, the double pendulum and the Lorenz attractor. IntroduçãoO ensino de física nos dias atuais passa por momentos de transformações, sobretudo em virtude das possibilidades do uso do computador como ferramenta auxiliar de ensino. We develop an Easy Java Simulation (EJS) model for students to experience the physics of idealized onedimensional collision carts. The physics model is described and simulated by both continuous dynamics and discrete transition during collision. In the field of designing computer simulations, we discuss briefly three pedagogical considerations such as 1) consistent simulation world view with pen paper representation, 2) data table, scientific graphs and symbolic mathematical representations for ease of data collection and multiple representational visualizations and 3) game for simple concept testing that can further support learning. We also suggest using physical world setup to be augmented complimentarily with simulation while highlighting three advantages of real collision carts equipment like tacit 3D experience, random errors in measurement and conceptual significance of conservation of momentum applied to just before and after collision. General feedback from the students has been relatively positive, and we hope teachers will find the simulation useful in their own classes. 2015 Resources added:
