Easy Hall position sensor fault-tolerant control algorithm for brushless DC drives

Abstract: This paper focuses on Hall-effect sensor fault detection and compensation for brushless dc (BLDC) drives. A methodology based on the Hall position vector phase differences is investigated to detect Hall fault. In order to obtain high-resolution position estimation in fault operation, an improved interpolation position estimation algorithm is described. The method's most innovative feature is the rapid fault diagnosis. After that, Hall signal noise is analyzed between sampling periods, and a correction machine … Show more

“…Whenever sensor fault is identified, the controller will shift its control to field‐oriented control, but it is possible to detect, identify, and compensate Hall faults only after analyzing the shape of the quantized position vector locus. In Lv et al, 17 an improved interpolation position algorithm is proposed which overcomes the drawbacks mentioned in Lv and Du 12 . In Zhang and Feng, 18 a fast fault‐tolerant system is designed which ensures stable operation in steady‐state and in dynamic conditions.…”

“…In order to accurately detect the health condition of Hall sensors, many detection methods have been proposed, including time-based and signal coding-based methods and so on. In [8], scholars achieve the detection of the health status of Hall sensors by comparing the phase difference of the Hall-encoded signals after CLARK transformation. Although this method achieves online fault detection by phase difference, it brings a large amount of computation during vector transformation, which puts a large burden on the CPU that adopts fixed-point computation.…”

“…In recent years, due to the rising awareness of environmental protection, electric motorcycles have gradually become the development focus. Permanent magnet brushless motors are widely used because of their benefits in maintenance, high power density, and simple control methods [1,2,3,4,5,6]. The three-phase full-bridge inverter with six active switches is the most common topology of the motor driver.…”
