EAST equilibrium current profile reconstruction using polarimeter-interferometer internal measurement constraints

Abstract: The first equilibrium reconstruction of EAST current-density profile based on internal Faraday rotation measurements provided by the POlarimeter-INTerferometer (POINT) diagnostic is demonstrated using the EFIT equilibrium reconstruction code. EFIT incorporates 11 simultaneous line-integrated density and Faraday effect measurements from POINT to self-consistently reconstruct the equilibrium toroidal current density profile using a Faraday rotation reconstruction algorithm. It is shown that the POINT measurement… Show more

“…A very low loop voltage of ~0.005V was obtained. No sawteeth was observed in the whole discharge which is consistent with the minimum q in the q profile (qmin>1.0), where the q profile using external magnetic measurements and POINT constraints [2]. Transport analysis shows that the bootstrap current fraction fbs is ~45%.…”

“…On EAST, increasing the e results in the requirement of more external CD to compensate the reduced LHCD efficiency. The q profile was found to be weak shearred with the q min >1.5 infered from the EFIT code constrained by POINT data [8]. The internal inductance, li slightly decreased from 0.95 to 0.8 during NBI H-mode phase.…”

“…The injected power were ~2.6MW LHW, ~1MW ICRF and 0.5MW ECRH. The Hmode pulse length is longer than 15 times the current relaxation time [8] ( R~0 .4s), with loop voltage maintained at -10 mV. From the Faraday rotation measurement shown in Fig.…”

“…2013; Qian et al. 2017) show that the fishbone instability is located inside the q = 1 surface, corresponding to ρ ~ 0.15 ( ρ is the square root of the normalized toroidal flux), as shown in figure 3( c ). Also, with the increase of injected NBI power, the total plasma pressure increases, as shown in figure 3( a ), but no clear change of the safety factor profiles in the core plasmas is observed and the magnetic shear is close to zero in the core region, as presented in figure 3( c , d ).…”
