“…After obtaining a standardized 1.5 mm thick graft, the palatal wound healing was assessed at 1 week postoperatively according to the Early Wound Healing Index described by Fickl et al. (). In the present study, the mean residual flap thickness at the centre of the harvested area was 1.40, 1.60 and 2.10 mm at 1, 3 and 6 mm from the incision line, respectively.…”

“…All patients were recalled and examined every 7 days for evaluation over a follow‐up period of 8 weeks. One week after surgery and after suture removal, the EHI (Fickl et al., ) was assessed by a blinded examiner (C.V.) in five different degrees:…”

“…In the scanned images, three rectangular regions of interest (ROIs) were defined: ROI A, including the entire section, i.e., from the epithelium to periosteum; ROI B, including the tissues located directly below the epithelium and extending 1.5 mm toward the periosteum, representing tissues contained in a DE‐harvested CTG; 1 and ROI C, including the tissues located 1.5 to 3.0 mm below the epithelium toward the periosteum, representing tissues contained in an SF‐harvested CTG, assuming a primary flap 1.5 mm thick 1 , 19 , 24 . In cases where ROI A was <3 mm in height, a primary flap 1 mm thick was assumed (n = 19) (Fig.…”

“…Traditional autogenous grafts demonstrated clinically predictable outcomes at tooth sites (Cairo, Nieri, & Pagliaro, ; Tatakis et al., ). However, involving an intraoral donor site may cause patients’ discomfort due to multiple operating sites and relatively long operating times (Fickl et al., ; Zucchelli et al., ).…”
