Early Postpartum Breast‐Feeding Outcomes and Breast‐Feeding Self‐Efficacy in Turkish Mothers Undergoing Vaginal Birth or Cesarean Birth With Different Types of Anesthesia

“…Although Caesarean section (CS) was found to be associated with EBF/AEBF, indirectly it was related to the time of initiating breastfeeding. Many other studies noted that CS delays the initiation of breastfeeding [ 42 , 43 ] and is associated with the use of supplements among newborns [ 44 ] and mothers who had CS experienced more breastfeeding problems [ 45 , 46 ]. Similar to earlier findings in the same study area [ 47 ], the proportion of CS was over 60 % during the study period and CS could defined as one of the risk factors for not exclusively breastfeeding.…”

“…The inadequacy of these constructs in explaining breastfeeding duration indicates a need to further explore the role of maternal selfdetermination in breastfeeding behavior. Further, it was revealed that studies pertaining to breastfeeding selfefficacy in Asia mostly concentrates in Turkey (Alus Tokat, Serçekuş, Yenal, & Okumuş, 2015), Iran (Mirghafourvand, Kamalifard, Ranjbar, & Gordani, 2018), China (Wu, Hu, McCoy, & Efird, 2014;Yang, Gao, Ip, & Sally Chan, 2016), Hong Kong (n = 3), Cyprus (Hadjiona et al, 2016), Jordan (Abuidhail, Mrayan, & Jaradat, 2019), Saudi Arabia (Khresheh & Ahmad, 2018), Taiwan (Lee, Chang, & Chang, 2019), and Vietnam (Ngo, Chou, Gau, & Liu, 2019). Little is known about the breastfeeding self-efficacy and sociocultural factors in the early postpartum period among low-income Filipino.…”

“…Breastfeeding self‐efficacy (BFSE) which is a mother's confidence in her ability to breastfeed has been found to be highly predictive of breastfeeding behaviours (Tokat, Okumuş, Okumuş, & Dennis, ). A relationship has been demonstrated between BFSE and exclusive breastfeeding (Alus Tokat, Serçekuş, Serçekuş, Yenal, & Okumuş, ). Maternal BFSE has been highlighted as an important factor for improving breastfeeding outcomes (Keemer, ; Nursan, Dilek, Dilek, & Sevin, ; Otsuka et al, ; Tuthill, McGrath, Graber, Cusson, & Young, ).…”
