Körper, Bewegung und Raum sind in den Sozialwissenschaften noch wenig etablierte Forschungsfelder. Erst langsam setzt sich die Erkenntnis durch, dass das Soziale wesentlich über Körper, Bewegung und Raum konstituiert wird und dass diese Dimensionen des Sozialen wechselseitig aufeinander verwiesen sind. Dynamik gewinnt die Forschungsperspektive, wenn Körper, Bewegung und Raum nicht länger als ontologisch, physikalisch definiert oder materiell gegeben vorausgesetzt, sondern als sozial hergestellt angesehen werden. Da Körper, Bewegung und Raum als materialisierte Formen gelten, standen sie lange Zeit in der Soziologie als Forschungsgegenstand nicht zur Diskussion und galten gar als das Andere des Sozialen. Neue Forschungsfelder machen seit wenigen Jahren jedoch deutlich, dass Körper sozial produziert werden und auch über ihre Materialität unlösbar in gesellschaftliche Prozesse und soziale Strukturen eingelassen sind. Damit ist eine fruchtbare soziologische Kontextualisierung von Körper, Bewegung und den über Körper-Bewegungen konstruierten Raum in Gang gekommen. Die Reihe Materialitäten hat zum Ziel, die neu entstehende Soziologie von Körper, Bewegung und Raum zu dokumentieren und editorisch zu betreuen. Sie bietet eine profilierte und hochkarätige Plattform für sozialwissenschaftliche Texte, die dieses Themenfeld vermessen und vertiefen, Beiträge zur Theorie und zur Sozialgeschichte von Körper, Bewegung und Raum sowie empirische soziologische Analysen jener sozialen Felder, in denen Körper, Bewegung und Raum eine besondere Bedeutung gewinnen. Hierzu gehören Stadt und öffentlicher Raum, Sport und Spiel, Alltagskultur und populäre Kultur. Die Reihe will Anschlussstellen aufzeigen zu jenen Soziologien, die mit den Themenfeldern Körper, Bewegung und Raum eng verwandt sind -etwa Geschlechterforschung, Stadtsoziologie, Umweltsoziologie, Sportsoziologie, Medizinsoziologie. Und schließlich zielt die Reihe Materialitäten darauf ab, soziologische Forschung in diesen Themenfeldern zu bündeln und auf diese Weise Anknüpfungspunkte an interdisziplinäre und internationale Diskurse herzustellen. Die Reihe wird herausgegeben von Gabriele Klein, Martina Löw und Michael Meuser.

Background: Plastibell circumcision is safe alternative to open circumcision. Objective: The aim of this study is to review the safety and complications of plastibell circumcision as compare to other techniques reported in literature. Study Design: Retrospective Observational study. Settings: Private Sector Hospital, Faisalabad. Duration: January 2008 to December 2017. Methodology: 2576 cases including neonates and children up to 5 years of age circumcised in private clinic. Results: In 98.5% of cases there was no complication. In 1.5% of the cases complications like hematoma, bleeding, slipped ligature, retention of bell, urinary retention, infection and unsatisfactory results with less amount of prepural skin being removed were encountered. Conclusion: Plastibell circumcision is a safe technique with minimum complications in experienced hands and good alternative to open technique.

Background: Circumcision is the oldest and most common surgical procedure in the world. One out of three adult males is subjected to this procedure at some point in their lives. Circumcision is done for different reasons, most often to meet religious and/or cultural obligations. Though rare, there exist medical indications for this procedure. As in all surgical procedures, there are early or late complications or morbidities associated with circumcision ranging from mild to severe. The factors that influence the rate of occurrence of complications include: the surgical technique applied, the degree of asepsis during the procedure, and the expertise of the practitioner carrying out the procedure. Case Presentation: This is the case of a 20-year-old black male. He presented in the emergency department of the Douala Laquintinie Hospital (DLH) two hours after circumcision with persistent bleeding from the penile wound. This was performed by a traditional healer using the technique of guillotine. Examination of the external genitalia revealed a wound on the penis with loss of skin over the whole penile shaft. Under spinal anesthesia, a reconstruction intervention which involved a single step scrotal skin flap advancement over the penile shaft was done. We noted satisfactory healing process with a pleasing aesthetic appearance of the penis. He confirmed satisfactory penile erection and sexual activity two months after hospital discharge. Conclusion: Circumcision is a simple surgical procedure that can result to life threatening complications or high morbidity more often when performed by an unskilled practitioner. Education of the population on the safer sites of circumcision can help in the prevention and early management of complications.
