Early Detection of Myocardial Infarction in Low-Quality Echocardiography

Abstract: Myocardial infarction (MI) is the leading cause of mortality in the world that occurs due to a blockage of the coronary arteries feeding the myocardium. An early diagnosis of MI and its localization can mitigate the extent of myocardial damage by facilitating early therapeutic interventions. Following the blockage of a coronary artery, the regional wall motion abnormality (RWMA) of the ischemic myocardial segments is the earliest change to set in. Echocardiography is the fundamental tool to assess any RWMA. As… Show more

“…To address some of the aforementioned issues, several approaches have been developed in order to analyze the cardiac motion or mass. Some of which are based on signal-processing analysis such as Fourier tracking [29], or metaheuristics such as genetic algorithms [30], or feature engineering [31]. Some other works use ML and convolutional neural networks (CNN) [32,33,34].…”

“…On an average, the end-to-end system lasts 13.12 ms to predict MI per video. [37,74]. Both the results of our model and the state-of-the-art works were achieved on the HMC-QU dataset.…”

“…The first test was conducted on the HMC-QU dataset, while the second test was conducted over a partition of the dataset that included only videos with reasonable quality. [74] used an E-D CNN to achieve the MI detection in the HMC-QU dataset. To report the classification results, two types of experiments were conducted.…”
