IntroduccIónEl estudio de las floras del pasado, su diversidad y evolución a través del tiempo es el tema central de la investigación paleobotánica, ya sea a través del análisis de impresiones de hojas, frondes, flores, frutos o semillas, leños permineralizados, o también el estudio de componentes microscópicos como los granos de polen, esporas, y algas. resulta interesante tener en cuenta la importancia de las plantas como principal fuente de alimento del reino animal y como proveedor de los hábitats donde se desarrollan, caracterís-ticas estas que han ido cambiando a través del tiempo. Muchos grupos de plantas se extinguieron mientras que otros se originaron y diversificaron planteando numerosos interrogantes a todos los que nos dedicamos al estudio de las floras del pasado. Preguntas frecuentes como ¿cuáles fueron los principales forzantes que modelaron sus cambios y evolución? ¿cuándo, y en qué ambientes, se originaron algunos grupos de plantas, como por ejemplo las plantas con flor? ¿cómo y por qué algunos grupos sobre- (1951-1975), Wolfgang Volkheimer (1975-1987 and Sergio Archangelsky (1987Archangelsky ( -2006 who laid the foundations that would position the Museum as one of the most important centers in Argentina on the study of Paleobotany.Key words: Paleobotany, Argentina, MAcn bicentenary, researchers, plant evolution.Resumen: La magnificencia y diversidad de la flora actual, con plantas adaptadas a prácticamente todos los ambientes y latitudes a través del mundo ha generado y genera innumerables cuestionamientos y preguntas a todos aquellos que nos dedicamos a estudiar su registro fósil. Este Museo, y sus investigadores, han tenido y tienen un rol protagónico en responder muchos de estos interrogantes casi desde los inicios de su fundación. En las primeras etapas se destacan las referencias sobre restos de plantas realizadas entre otros, por Hermann Burmeister y Florentino Ameghino. A partir de 1951, con la formación de la división Paleobotánica, la disciplina comenzó a tener un fuerte auge en el Museo con incorporación creciente y progresiva de investigadores, acrecentamiento de las colecciones científicas y transferencia de los conocimientos adquiridos a través de reuniones científicas y de publicaciones en reconocidas revistas de carácter nacional e internacional. En este contexto, merece destacarse la tarea realizada por el dr. Alberto castellanos y los primeros Jefes de la división Paleobotánica: dres. carlos Menéndez (1951-1975), Wolfgang Volkheimer (1975-1987) y Sergio Archangelsky (1987-2006 quienes sentaron las bases que permitirían posicionar al Museo como uno de los centros de estudio en paleobotánica más importantes del país.Palabras clave: Paleobotánica, Argentina, bicentenario MAcn, investigadores, evolución de las plantas._____________

The Sarcheshmeh and Sanganeh for ma tions are the Lower Cre ta ceous deep ma rine se quences of the Koppeh-Dagh sed imen tary ba sin, which re vealed a di verse as sem blage of dinoflagellates. The pa per dis cusses palynostratigraphy, palynofacies and palaeoenvironment of these rock units in a bore hole drilled in the east ern part of this ba sin. Ninety-five ditch-cut ting sam ples were pre pared and stud ied paly no logi cal ly, which re sulted in rec og ni tion of 76 spe cies of dinoflagellate cysts be long ing to 29 gen era. The re corded as sem blages are in ac cor dance with the Odontochitina operculata Zone suggest ing a Barremian?-Aptian age for the for ma tions. Palynological data ex tracted led to iden ti fi ca tion of five palynofacies types based on the cat e go ries of Tyson (1995). These in di cate a mar ginal, prox i mal and dis tal shelf en vi ron ment of de po sition. The ob tained data from cal cu lated palaeo eco logi cal fac tors re vealed a grad ual sea level rise dur ing the de po si tion of these rock units, re sult ing in re place ment of the oxic/dysoxic Sarcheshmeh For ma tion by the dysoxic/anoxic Sanganeh Forma tion.
