Early and late diastolic strain rate vs global longitudinal strain at rest and during dobutamine stress for the assessment of significant coronary artery stenosis in patients with a moderate and high probability of coronary artery disease

Abstract: Global longitudinal strain is highly sensitive and specific in detecting hemodynamically significant coronary artery stenosis in moderate- to high-risk patients without known CAD. This is the first study showing that GLS is more sensitive and specific compared with early and late diastolic SR parameters or visual assessment in detecting CAD.

“…109,110 Studies have compared the value of multiple strain parameters for detection of CAD. 104,[111][112][113][114] The optimal STE parameter for detection of ischemia remains uncertain. In general, STE has not shown an incremental increase in accuracy compared to visual assessment.…”

“…In general, STE has not shown an incremental increase in accuracy compared to visual assessment. [113][114][115][116] The requirements for and challenges to the clinical application of STE to stress echocardiography are listed in Table 8. 109 The reproducibility of regional strain values has not been well validated and inter-vendor differences in measurement are the subject of ongoing investigation.…”

“…Cardiac strain imaging is a quantitative tool used in the early evaluation of regional systolic cardiac function using echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) [8,9]. CTA-derived assessment of strain has emerged as a valuable method for the assessment of cardiac function, and it shows close correlations with both echocardiography and CMR [10][11][12][13].…”
