“…The results of this research are consistent with previous studies showing that international accounting standards' adoption is influenced by coercive isomorphic pressures (Ashraf & Ghani, 2005;Judge et al, 2010;Mir & Rahaman, 2005), mimetic isomorphic pressures (Judge et al, 2010;Zeghal & Mhedhbi, 2006), tax system (Kaya & Koch, 2015;Shima & Yang, 2012), and governance quality (Alon & Dwyer, 2014;Kaya & Koch, 2015;Ramanna & Sletten, 2009). Unlike previous studies, our research is the first to analyze the impact of SMEs' importance on countries' decision to adopt IFRS for SMEs.…”

“…Most of the previous studies have focused on the analysis of factors influencing the full IFRS adoption by countries (Alon & Dwyer, ; Archambault & Archambault, ; Clements, Neill, & Stovall, ; Judge et al, ; Ramanna & Sletten, ; Shima & Yang, ; Zeghal & Mhedhbi, ). The main environmental factors highlighted by these researchers are: education, legal system, existence of a capital market, culture, import penetration, foreign aid, economic growth, governance quality, investor protection mechanisms, inflation, and tax system.…”

“…For instance, using 85 banks from 20 European countries, Barakat and Hussainey (2013) found that countries with stronger NGQ (i.e., the rule of law [ROL]) are associated with an increase in the level of operational risk disclosures. However, using data from 71 nations, Alon and Dwyer (2014) found that countries with poor NGQ are more likely to adopt IFRS early in comparison with their counterparts with strong NGQ, with the aim of allowing them to gain access to critical resources, such as foreign direct investments. To the best of our knowledge, no prior study has examined the impact of NGQ on RDPs to date, and, therefore, this study offers genuine opportunities to contribute to the extant literature by examining the effect of NGQ on RDPs.…”
