E8(8) exceptional field theory: geometry, fermions and supersymmetry

Abstract: We present the supersymmetric extension of the recently constructed E 8(8) exceptional field theory -the manifestly U-duality covariant formulation of the untruncated ten-and eleven-dimensional supergravities. This theory is formulated on a (3+248) dimensional spacetime (modulo section constraint) in which the extended coordinates transform in the adjoint representation of E 8(8) . All bosonic fields are E 8(8) tensors and transform under internal generalized diffeomorphisms. The fermions are tensors under the… Show more

“…Their associated gauge transformations with parameter Σ N M are then responsible for closure of the full diffeomorphism algebra. Fields of the same two-index structure appear in E 8 exceptional field theory among the two-forms and are required in order to close the algebra of gauge transformations and supersymmetry on the vector fields [23,50]. In index-free notation, we will denote the new gauge parameter as 13) to keep track of its two-index nature (keeping in mind that in general this matrix is not factorised).…”

“…Requiring invariance under all these local symmetries fixes the bosonic part of the action. 5 Furthermore, the supersymmetric completion has been constructed [43,58,59]. Thus ExFT provides a full reformulation of the maximally supersymmetric 10-and 11-dimensional supergravities, treating them simply as different solutions to the section condition.…”
