Abstract: Cytomegaloviruses are highly species-specific as they replicate only in cells of their own or a closely related species. For instance, human cytomegalovirus cannot replicate in rodent cells, and mouse cytomegalovirus (MCMV) cannot replicate in human and monkey cells.
