E-Shape Microstrip Antenna for Dual Frequency Wlan Application

Abstract: For exploring the possibility of dual frequency response, a higher order mode frequency response in the air suspended design of a wideband E-shape microstrip antenna is studied by appropriately decreasing the air gap. The decrease in the air gap realizes the impedance matching at higher order TM 12 mode which, along with the fundamental TM 10 mode, gives dual frequency response. On an air suspended FR4 substrate with total thickness of 0.043λ g optimized single patch configuration yields dual band response at … Show more

“…The reconfigurable active devices along with their biasing circuits increase the integration and fabrication complexity for the dual polarized multi-band configurations as reported in [18][19][20]. The dual band E-shape MSA as reported in [25] offers higher frequency ratio than the proposed design. The CP designs using U-slot variations yields measured impedance and AR bandwidth of 11.2% and 3.9%, respectively, with a peak gain of 9 dBi, on a substrate of thickness 0.08λ g [28].…”

“…A higher order mode frequency response for the same design have not been explored as the impedance matching at higher frequencies is not realized because of the higher value of “h/λ”. By exploring the input impedance matching against the varying substrate thickness at the fundamental and higher order modes, dual band response in E‐shape MSA has been achieved 23 . However, that study was focused on realizing dual band single polarized response offering frequency ratio of 1:2.4.…”

“…In wireless applications where the antenna needs to operate at closely spaced frequencies offering appreciably larger value of the gain and BW supported with polarization diversity, antenna reported in Ref. 23 will not be useful. The present article explores this research gap and provides a systematic study for achieving multi‐band single and dual polarized response in a suspended patch operating on electrically thinner substrate.…”
