Abstract-Over the past decade speech and language therapy has taken an interesting turn towards the use of information communication technologies (ICTs) for diagnosis of disorders and delivery of therapy. In many cases ICTs have worked as assistive tools to therapists, while in others as sole providers of therapy, especially in remote areas. In this report we provide a brief overview of the most representative articles for applications and assistive technologies used for assessment and intervention purposes in Speech Therapy according to the type of disorders.

Language teaching has passed through a long way in search of a remedy for language learners and teachers. Countless theories, approaches, and methods have been recommended. With all these, however, more inclusive L2 theories and models ought to be considered to come up with real classroom practices. One of such crucial practices is authenticity, being straightforwardly found in web-based materials in general and Wikipedia texts and tasks in particular. In the same line and based on sound theoretical underpinnings, the place of Wikipedia is investigated in this study as a prospective tool to teach and learn a major language component with practical procedures i.e. vocabulary knowledge. To this end, 36 intermediate Iranian EFL students assigned to two control and experimental groups took part in the study. The results of the tests administered divulged that the learners in the Wikipedia group surpassed those of the control group. Hence, Wikipedia is considered as an encouraging authentic resource to assist EFL learners in improving their vocabulary knowledge. Implications of present findings and suggestions for further research are discussed.

Η ανάπτυξη της τεχνολογίας έχει επιφέρει αλλαγές στον τρόπο διδασκαλίας των μαθηματικών σε μαθητές με νοητική υστέρηση (Brown et al., 2011). Η παρούσα μελέτη περίπτωσης αποσκοπεί στη διερεύνηση της δυνατότητας των έφηβων με μέτρια νοητική υστέρηση να κατανοούν την τυχαιότητα και να εντοπίζουν το δειγματικό χώρο ενός τυχαίου πειράματος, με τη χρήση της τεχνολογίας. Οι συμμετέχοντες σε αυτή τη μελέτη ήταν δύο έφηβοι με μέτρια νοητική υστέρηση ηλικίας 15 και 16 ετών. Για το σκοπό της έρευνας αναπτύχθηκε μια ιστορία η οποία παρουσιάστηκε στους συμμετέχοντες κάνοντας χρήση του power point. Σύμφωνα με τα αποτελέσματα της μελέτης, οι έφηβοι με μέτρια νοητική υστέρηση ήταν σε θέση να διακρίνουν το δειγματικό χώρο ενός πειράματος τύχης που απαρτίζονταν από ένα έως και τέσσερα διαφορετικά αντικείμενα ενώ αρχικά δεν ήταν σε θέση να περιγράψουν όλους τους δυνατούς συνδυασμούς τριών και τεσσάρων αντικειμένων ανά δύο. Παρ’ όλα αυτά, μπορούν να βελτιώσουν την πιθανολογική σκέψη τους μέσω διδασκαλίας κατάλληλα σχεδιασμένων εκπαιδευτικών δραστηριοτήτων.
