Healthcare professionals are standing against the widespread use of e-cigarettes among the population, especially young adults. E-cigarettes are generally introduced, especially via social media platforms, as a safer alternative to conventional cigarette smoking. The aim of this study was to measure the prevalence of e-cigarette use among healthcare professions students at the University of Jordan, as well as to explore their knowledge and attitudes toward the use of e-cigarettes. An anonymous Google-Form®®-based cross-sectional questionnaire was presented to potential participants at the University of Jordan. Students’ responses were analyzed using SPSS®® 23.0 software. A total of 679 online surveys were completed. About 37.4% of students reported using e-cigarettes at least once in their lifetime and about 20% of students were current e-cigarette users. The multivariate analysis showed that the factors associated with E-cigarette smoking are being male, having mothers, siblings, or friends using e-cigarettes, having easy access to e-cigarettes, and having social media as the main source of knowledge regarding e-cigarettes. The relatively high acceptance level and use of e-cigarettes among health professions students should be an alarming sign to decision-makers to give more attention to legislation that controls tobacco products including e-cigarette selling and advertising.

Vape shops specialize in sales of e-cigarettes and related products. This study examines whether vape shops adapted their products and services in response to changes in federal and state policies that affect the tobacco retail environment between 2014–2022. In this multicohort study, four waves of study data were used to examine the trends in products sold in vape shops in Southern California. Items sold were assessed through systematic store product observations and included categories of e-cigarettes, device modification equipment, and other products (e.g., Cannabidiol (CBD), paraphernalia). Descriptive statistics are reported. The availability of disposable devices increased from 18% at Wave 1 to 98% of shops at Wave 4. Pod mods were first observed in 79% of the shops beginning at Wave 3. Device modification drills later become obsolete, from 60% at Wave 1 to 0 by Wave 4; self-service sampling displays declined from 83% of shops to 9%. Vape shops did not carry CBD products until Wave 3 (2017/2018), when 19.0% of shops carried CBD products and 72.9% at Wave 4. Future research should examine how e-cigarette retailers and manufacturers respond to changing state and federal regulations to better understand the implications of regulatory efforts.

Introduction: Social media plays a protagonist role in the promotion of addictive substances targeting vulnerable and susceptible groups including adolescents and young adults in contemporary times. Despite the broad evidence of tobacco promotion on popular social media, electronic cigarette advertisement remains a recent public health concern, as is considered an emerging phenomenon. Further research must be developed to address this topic, contributing to improved regulation of the marketing of vaping products. Aims and Objectives: The proposed scoping review aims to clarify key concepts related to e-cigarette promotion on social media, synthesise the relevant evidence related to the topic, and identify gaps that will contribute to further research and policymaking enhancement. Identifying Studies: The databases Embase, MEDLINE, PsycINFO, Epistemonikos, Science Citation Index, Cochrane Database of Systematic (CDSR) and CENTRAL will be used to search for relevant studies by using a range of keywords in the search strategy. Study Selection: Studies must comprise individuals over 10 years old living in core anglophone countries. Eligible studies must evaluate the promotion of e-cigarettes on accessible social media platforms, and its influence on vaping uptake and positive perception among the research population. The screening and extraction stage will be held on Covidence through three independent reviews and results will be displayed via a PRISMA flowchart. Reporting the results: Extracted data will be reported through a table and the results presented using a narrative summary. No assessment for risk bias or formal synthesis will be included as this is a scoping review. The results will provide relevant information and recommendations for prospective research.
