Dyspepsia in Turkish patients on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis

Abstract: Dyspepsia is common and the prevalence of H. pylori infection is 26.6% in our CAPD patients with dyspepsia. Dyspepsia is not associated with the presence of H. pylori and diabetes in CAPD patients. Large-scale studies are needed to elucidate dyspepsia related risk factors and physiopathological mechanisms.

“…Recently, although associations between patients with CRF and the prevalence of H. pylori infection have been reported, 914,21–59 their results are still controversial, probably due to small number of studies and short duration periods. Only four previous studies examined more than 200 patients (maximum of 322 patients 20 ), and no previous studies examined patients with mean dialysis duration periods of >100 months.…”

“…23 In general, both protein and energy requirements are greater in dialysis patients than in healthy persons. 24 The Dialysis Outcome Quality Initiative (DOQI) guidelines in nutrition have proposed that, based on nitrogen studies in HD and PD patients, a minimum of 1.2 g of protein/kg BW in HD and 1.3 g of protein/kg BW in PD represent the minimum daily intake to ensure a neutral protein balance. 25 Half of this intake should be made by proteins of high biological value from animal origin, for example, meat, fish, or dairy products.…”
