Dyslipidemia’s influence on the secretion ovarian’s steroids in female mice

Abstract: Introduction: The synthesis ovarian’s steroids is a process thats depends on the supply of cholesterol. Objective: to evaluate the influence of dyslipidemia on the secretion ovarian’s steroids. Methodology: wild female mice were used (C57BL6) and LDL (LDLR-/-), which they were separated into 4 groups (n = 10): WTS: fed a standard diet; WTHL: fed a high-fat diet; KOS: fed a standard diet; KOHL: fed a high-fat diet. After 60 days, the estrous cycle was analyzed and after anesthetized, blood was collected for the… Show more

“…In addition, oxidative stress increases lipid peroxidation of HDL and decreases its levels, further promoting tissue inflammation. In a study by Abreu et al (2021), oxidative stress and acute inflammation induced an increase in insulin levels, which may indicate insulin resistance due to the decrease in the activities of molecules involved in insulin signal transduction.…”

“…Steroid production is known to be dependent on FA availability, and, in turn, high concentrations of E2 can reduce 6‐desaturase activity (Gulliver et al, 2012), decreasing the availability of substrates for eicosanoid synthesis. A study in mice showed that a HFD promoted hypercholesterolaemia characterized by an increase in total and LDL cholesterol, a decrease in HDL and an increase in C‐reactive protein (CRP), which may indicate an inflammatory process in the body (Abreu et al, 2021).…”

“…Proper levels of these hormones are instrumental for the normal functioning of female reproductive system [47], [48]. Ovarian steroidogenesis is known to be affected by dyslipidaemia in mice [49]. Moreover, from previous studies we know that condition such as PCOS displays altered lipid pro les, which includes reduced high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), elevated triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), along with signi cantly increased lipoprotein levels [50]- [52].…”
