Dynamics of Current, Charge and Mass

Abstract: Electricity plays a special role in our lives and life. Equations of electron dynamics are nearly exact and apply from nuclear particles to stars. These Maxwell equations include a special term the displacement current (of vacuum). Displacement current allows electrical signals to propagate through space. Displacement current guarantees that current is exactly conserved from inside atoms to between stars, as long as current is defined as Maxwell did, as the entire source of the curl of the magnetic field. We s… Show more

“…The proof is elaborated on in Supporting Materials and Methods , Section S7. A general discussion about displacement current can be found in ( 21 , 22 , 23 ), which does not involve assumptions concerning the dielectric coefficient ε r or polarization properties of matter at all. Hence, Eq.…”

“…Most of the classical literature concerns polarization that is proportional to the local electric field, i.e. that is linear [36,. Polarization has been studied in great detail because it is a major determinant of the forces between molecules [101,102].…”

“…Flux Coupling and Channel Opening. Manuel Landstorfer and I recently realized [36] that a different kind of coupling can occur between the voltage sensor of a voltage sensitive channel [138][139][140][141][142][143] and its conduction pore. Part of the current injected by the voltage sensor might flow through the conduction pore and trigger its opening.…”

“…Yet it is also obvious that the ordinary kind of averaging in statistical mechanics is insensitive to the properties of a tiny fraction of atoms. We [22] (Section 3.1, p. 22) actually performed this kind of average explicitly in some detail to show how important is the assumption of minimal interactions in classical statistical mechanics. The controlling atoms in biological structures often make up less than 10 -17 part of the structure, so the physical scientist finds it hard to believe that a handful of atoms can control macroscopic function!…”
