Dynamics-Based Vibration Signal Modeling for Tooth Fault Diagnosis of Planetary Gearboxes

Abstract: Vibration analysis has been widely used to diagnose gear tooth fault inside a planetary gearbox. However, the vibration characteristics of a planetary gearbox are very complicated. Inside a planetary gearbox, there are multiple vibration sources as several sunplanet gear pairs, and several ring-planet gear pairs are meshing simultaneously. In addition, due to the rotation of the carrier, distance varies between vibration sources and a transducer installed on the planetary gearbox housing. Dynamics-based vibrat… Show more

“…In general, the planets not only revolve on their own axes but also rotate around the sun. Multiple pairs of gears participate in the transmission to make planetary sets have a higher load capacity and larger transmission ratio with equal or smaller volume [1]. However, extreme operating conditions cause frequent component failures, which may cause catastrophic accidents.…”

“…The tests were based both on numerical as well as experimental data. Besides, there are other publications, in which selected diagnostic methods, concerning an assessment of gear wheels condition -a detection of damages during an operation of a pump or of a gear -without any disassembly [14][15][16][17], are presented.…”
