As barragens hidrelétricas ameaçam um terço da diversidade ictiofaunística de importantes bacias hidrográficas mundiais, podendo afetar milhares de pessoas que dependem da pesca para sua sobrevivência. Considerando a relevância da pesquisa acadêmica para a gestão sustentável dos recursos pesqueiros sob impacto antrópico, o presente trabalho avalia o potencial do conhecimento científico disponível para embasar tomadas de decisão. Por meio de revisão sistemática, foram analisados 110 artigos, em maior parte publicados em inglês (90%), difusos em 56 revistas científicas, pouco acessíveis aos tomadores de decisão. Dos 93 reservatórios estudados nos papers, cinco deles estão no Brasil e na África, representando 32% dos estudos. Os métodos mais utilizados nas pesquisas foram survey (51%) e revisão (20%), com predominância da abordagem quantitativa (71%). Os efeitos negativos dos reservatórios sobre a pesca e os peixes foi tema central de maior parte dos estudos. Cerca de 52% focaram exclusivamente na pesca, abordando características gerais da atividade e volumes de produção. Estudos sobre perfil dos pescadores apareceram em seguida, com poucos estudos sobre aspectos socioeconômicos. Os aspectos biofísicos dos peixes foram tema dos 48% dos artigos. De modo geral, a revisão sistemática revelou estudos pontuais, de curto prazo, descontínuos, com enfoque disciplinar e voltados às ciências biofísicas, sendo pouco efetivos para orientar tomadas de decisão. Assim, recomenda-se a ampliação dos estudos no âmbito social e econômico, assim como a aplicação de ferramentas interdisciplinares, que atendam a complexidade do tema para efetivamente embasarem tomadas de decisão com vistas a sustentabilidade da pesca em ambientes barrados por hidrelétricas.

Nowadays, the problem of inland water pollution is acute. It is caused by vast industrial growth and agricultural intensification. Concentrations of Cd, Pb, Zn, Cu, Mn, Fe, Mg, and Kwere determined in the muscles, liver, and gonads sabrefish from Rybinsk Reservoir areas with different anthropogenic loads. The tissue samples were analyzed by atomic absorption spectrometry. Heavy metals accumulated more intensively in the body of fish from more polluted areas of the reservoir. Among the analyzed elements, the maximum accumulation levels were found for K, Zn, and Fe and the minimum levels were observed for Cd and Pb. The gonads contained the largest concentration of Cd and Mn, the muscles contained the highest concentrations of Mg, and the other elements mainly accumulated in the liver of sabrefish. The THQ and HI values for all elements did not exceed 1, which suggests that there is no potential non-carcinogenic risk to human health. The target values of carcinogenic risk (TR) for cadmium ranged from 8.32 × 10−6 to 1.22 × 10−4 in the muscles. The increased content of cadmium in the gonads of sabrefish not only poses a risk to human health, but also to the reproduction of this species in the Rybinsk Reservoir.

This study proposes a discrete-time mathematical model to investigate the impact of selective harvesting on the dynamics of a population with age and sex structures. The model assumes that the birth rate depends on the sex ratio of the population and the number of breeding pairs. The growth rate is regulated by limiting juvenile survival, where an increase in population size decreases the survival of immature individuals. We consider the following selective proportional exploitation: harvesting of juveniles and harvesting of mature males. Depending on the values of population parameters, selective harvesting can lead to the stabilization of population dynamics by dampening oscillations or the emergence and amplification of fluctuations in population size. The model reveals multistability domains in which different dynamic modes coexist, and variations in initial conditions can lead to changes in dynamic modes. Depending on the values of the population parameters, the proposed models with harvest reveal the hydra effect, indicating an increase in the equilibrium abundance of the exploited group after reproduction but before harvesting, with an increase in the harvesting rate. Selective harvesting, resulting in the hydra effect, increases the remaining population size due to reproduction and the number of harvested individuals.
