Dynamical interaction of an elastic system and a vibro‐impact absorber

Abstract: The nonlinear two-degree-of-freedom system under consideration consists of the linear oscillator with a relatively big mass, which is an approximation of some continuous elastic system, and of the vibro-impact oscillator with a relatively small mass, which is an absorber of the linear system vibrations. Analysis of nonlinear normal vibration modes shows that a stable localized vibration mode, which provides the vibration regime appropriate for the elastic vibration absorption, exists in a large region of the s… Show more

“…Similar procedures for calculations of the Kauderer-Rosenberg NNMs of the system with impact absorber and linear subsystem are proposed in Refs. [15,16]. The modal lines are calculated using NNMs theory and nonsmooth functions developed by Pilipchuk [6].…”

“…In general, different mechanisms of energy transfer exist. Nonlinear energy transfer is implemented due to nonlinear mode bifurcations, or through spatial energy localization by formation of NNMs [3,5,9,[15][16][17][18][19]74,[92][93][94][95]. In nonlinear Hamiltonian systems, the irreversible transfer of energy is generally precluded due to conservation of the phase volume.…”

“…However, these are not the only way to introduce dampers into machines. Impact dampers for example rely on collision masses and have been studied in [3–7] mainly in three variations: with clearance, with a singular impact mass, and with multiple impact masses. Impact dampers were also investigated for turbomaschinery in [8].…”
