Dynamical coupled channels calculation of pion and omega meson production

Abstract: A dynamical coupled channel approach is used to study π and ω-meson production induced by pions and photons scattering from the proton. Six intermediate channels including πN , ηN , π∆, σN , ρN , ωN are employed to describe unpolarized and polarized data. Bare parameters in an effective hadronic Lagrangian are determined in a fit to the data for πN → πN , γN → πN , π − p → ωn, and γp → ωp reactions at center-of-mass energies from threshold to W < 2.0 GeV. The T matrix determined in these fits is used to calcul… Show more

“…In the same figure, the present results are also compared to model calculations from Refs. [7,11,12] and to the results from SAPHIR [6], the angular coverage of which (see the horizontal error bars in Fig. 4) was almost full, allowing to extrapolate the differential cross sections to the full range.…”

“…The dynamical coupled-channel analysis from Ref. [12] yielded separate values for two scattering lengths: α Existing experimental results for the imaginary [32] and the real [33] parts of the ω-nucleus potential were recalculated by one of the present authors (V. M.) into the ωN scattering length, using the connection of the mesonnucleus optical potential to the meson-nucleon scattering amplitude described in Ref. [34] (details of these calculations are beyond the scope of the present work and will be published separately).…”

“…Several theoretical interpretations attempted the extraction of resonant contributions, reaching conflicting results [17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24], but all agreeing that beam polarization observables are needed to constrain the dynamics of the ω photo-production reaction.…”
