Dynamical active particles in the overdamped limit
Diego M Fieguth
Abstract:Mobile microscopic bodies, such as motile cells, can be modelled phenomenologically as ‘active particles’ which can move against external forces by depleting an internal energy depot. The microscopic mechanisms underlying such ‘active’ behaviour must ultimately obey fundamental physics: energy depots must actually consist of dynamical degrees of freedom, such as chemical reaction coordinates, which in some way couple to the particle’s motional degrees of freedom. As a step towards connecting phenomenological m… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
