Dynamic tissue perfusion measurement in the reproductive organs of the female and male dogs

Abstract: The aim of this study was to investigate the usefulness of new software Pixel Flux (PXFX) for clinical evaluation of tissue perfusion in the field of reproduction in dogs. The experiment was performed on six adult Beagle dogs. Different organs and tissues of the animals were examined with the MyLab25 Gold ultrasound system. Blood flow in the ovary, testicle, prostate, the ramification of the penile artery, and the network of blood vessels of the pampiniform plexus were examined with the use of colour coded Dop… Show more

“…In human and veterinary medicine, Doppler sonography has become a common noninvasive method to study perfusion characteristics of the female reproductive tract. Different Doppler methods, i. e. color (10), power (35) and pulse wave Doppler (14) have been tested and proven feasible for reproductive purposes when applied either transvaginally such as in women (33), transabdominally such as in bitches (2) or transrectally e. g. in cows and mares (5,35). Among large animal species, it is particularly the mare's repro ductive tract that has been intensively studied by Doppler sono graphy in order to characterize the uterine blood flow during the estrous cycle or to investigate perfusion patterns of the diseased uterus (6,11).…”

“…In animals, colour Doppler ultrasonography is generally used in cardiac and vascular assessments (King, 2006). In addition, colour Doppler ultrasonography has been reported to be useful for examining blood flow to genital organs in the whole reproductive period (Dzięcioł et al ., 2014; Bollwein et al ., 2016). To the best of our knowledge, there are no previously-published studies in the literature about the evaluation of supramammary lymph nodes in cows using the colour Doppler ultrasonography methods.…”

“…Blood flow was evaluated by measurements of the velocity and intensity in the defined region of interest (ROI). The mean flow intensity (I) inside a ROI as well as the mean flow velocity (V) was calculated according the procedures described by Dzięcioł et al (14).…”

“…It also makes it possible to detect more subtle changes in perfusion of particular parts of the organs (13,14). Previously the lack of possibilities of objective evaluation of results obtained with the Doppler examination significantly reduced its usefulness for scientific research.…”
