Abstract:<p>This paper presented a physico-mathematical model for dynamic fracture propagation in brittle materials with a purely continuum mechanics hemi-variational-based strain gradient theory. As for the quasi-static case, the simulation results, obtained by means of finite elements, revealed that strain gradient effects significantly affected the fracture propagation, leading to finite fracture thickness that was independent of the mesh size. It was also observed that nonsymmetric loading rate lead to a devi… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
