Dynamic Response of Single Pile Located in Soft Clay Underlay by Sand

Abstract: Piles have been extensively used for supporting axial loads and lateral loads for variety of structures including high rise buildings, transmission towers, power stations, offshore structures and highway and railway structures. Pile foundations are subjected to lateral loading due to wind action, wave action, earthquake and impact of ships in dock and harbour structures. In such cases, studying the behavior of pile foundation due dynamic loading is essential. Compare to field tests, the numerical modeling is a… Show more

“…simulating earthquakes in the time domain, and creating dynamic boundary cond In addition, the compatibility of studies in the literature regarding such analyses w taken into account. Considering the studies in the literature, the Plaxis 2D progr been used many studies [31][32][33][34][35][36]. Additionally, it is stated in the Plaxis manual (20 such dynamic analyses can be performed with the Plaxis 2D program, and single p be modeled under plane strain conditions.…”

“…The results of the research are expected to help practitioners to plan the structure of the beach building, coastal protection, the structure of the building at sea, or marine structures. For example, as mentioned by Rathod et.al [15]; Piles used in marine structures are subjected to lateral loads from the impact of berthing ships and from waves. Piles used to support retaining walls, bridge piers and abutments, and machinery foundations carry combinations of vertical and horizontal loads.…”

“…Pile foundations may not only subjected to static loads but also dynamic loads simultaneously. The study on the dynamic response of a single concrete pile in soft clay subjected to static and dynamic simultaneously has been presented [3]. The connection between pile to the cap also may be investigated to understand its behavior respected to the applied loads.…”
