Dynamic Response of Concrete Pavements under Vehicular Loads

Abstract: SummaryConsiderable knowledge of pavement behaviour under static loads is available world-wide. The behaviour of concrete pavements under dynamic loads, however, has not received much attention and hence is not well understood at present. To address this need, a 3D finite element analysis using diverse axle groups with different speeds from 2 km/h to 110 km/h has been performed. Two pavement types namely, jointed plain concrete pavement (JPCP) and jointed reinforced concrete pavement (JRCP) are investigated. M… Show more

“…As suggested by different authors, the natural frequency, which depends on type and speed of the vehicle as well as temperature and type of pavement structure, can range from 6 to 12 Hz (Uddin 2003;Darestani et al 2006). It has been found also that truck loading frequency is about 4.6 Hz at a speed of 58 km/h and 6.5 Hz at 82 km/h (Gillespie 1993).…”

“…Perkerasan jalan pada simpang bersinyal cenderung lebih cepat mengalami kerusakan, karena di tempat ini sering terjadi antrian kendaraan yang panjang yang akan mempengaruhi waktu pembebanan (Darestani, 2007). Lalu lintas, yang dapat berupa peningkatan beban dan repetisi beban, merupakan salah satu penyebab kerusakan perkerasan lentur.…”

“…On the other hand, using the load time history, reduces cracking at the corner about 15% and dramatically increases the cracking at the middle edges. In addition, these results are influenced by the speed of the truck [4,5].…”
