Dynamic Positioning Method Based on Dominant Region Diagram to Realize Successful Cooperative Play

Abstract: In this paper, we propose a new technique to compute, in real time, the positions of robots in a cooperative play such as the pass-andshoot play. To evaluate the positioning of the robot, we use the Dominant Region (DR) diagram, which is a kind of a Voronoi diagram. In the DR diagram, the soccer field is divided into regions, each of which shows an area that a robot can reach faster than the other robots. This division is based on the time of arrival while the division by the Voronoi diagram is based on the di… Show more

“…The results showed that individual playing areas become smaller when the ball moved into the central pitch area. Another approach uses Voronoi-diagrams to investigate space control (Nakanishi et al 2008 ). Here the controlled space is determined using the location and distances between individual players to determine the controlled space.…”

“…Los resultados de esta línea de investigación indican que los equipos atacantes cubren mayores áreas de superficie que los equipos defensivos (Moura et al, 2012). También se aplican comúnmente los diagramas de Voronoi para investigar el control del espacio (Nakanishi et al, 2008). Aquí, el espacio controlado se determina utilizando la ubicación y las distancias entre los jugadores individuales para determinar el espacio controlado (Figura 2).…”

“…In addition, the applicability of the GI formula in other contexts involving other teams (e.g., elite vs non-elite) and players (e.g., youth teams), and considering the influence of other interactional situational variables (match venue*quality of opposition*game result), can provide novel and useful insights regarding how players behave under distinct conditions of competitive performance. Also, incorporating other information, such as Voronoi-diagrams 11,41 or GPS information 42 , can help coaches and performance analysts to have a deeper analysis of players' spatial and temporal control with and without the ball during the football game.…”
