Dynamic Origin of Azimuthal Modes Splitting in Vortex-State Magnetic Dots

Abstract: A spin-wave theory explaining experimentally observed frequency splitting of dynamical spin excitations with azimuthal symmetry of a magnetic dot in a vortex ground state is developed. It is shown that this splitting is a result of the dipolar hybridization of three spin-wave modes of a dot having azimuthal indices |m|=1: two high-frequency azimuthal dipolar modes of the in-plane part of the vortex with indices m = +/-1 and a low-frequency (Goldstone-like) gyrotropic mode, describing translational motion of th… Show more

“…2b,c). These low-field doublets [24] can be described as azimuthal spin waves with the indices m=±1, n=0, indicated in Fig.2 as (1), and with the indices m=±1, n=1. The later modes have much lower intensity and will not be discussed further.…”

“…We used the generator mzran13 due to Marsaglia and Zaman, 29 implemented in the C language for long integers. This generator is very simple and fast and has a period of about 2 125 , and is based on a combination of two separate generators with periods of 2 32 and 2 95 .…”

“…7 ' 9,10 The moving vortex profile is distorted in comparison to the static vortex 1 ' 18 due to interaction of the gyrotropic mode with azimuthal spin waves. 19 ' 20 This distortion increases when the core velocity increases, eventually leading to core polarization reversal. 10,21 It has been shown that the vortex core polarization can be reversed by the application of a small ac magnetic field with a vortex resonance frequency and an amplitude considerably smaller than the switching field of the vortex core static reversal.…”
