Dynamic Modulus of Three-Layer Boards with Different Furnish and Shelling Ratio

Abstract: This aims of this study were to investigate the relationship between non-destructive evaluation (NDE) and actual bending properties of particleboard, and to predict the bending properties of three-layer particleboard. Three kinds of raw materials, i.e. Hinoki (Chamaecyparis obtusa Endl.) strand, knife-milled Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga manziesii (Mirb) Franco), and hammer-milled matoa (Pometia spp.) obtained from wooden industry, were utilized as furnish for experimental panel with methylene diphenyl diisocyanate… Show more

“…Small/fine particles produce higher internal bonding strength, but lower static bending strength than coarse particles (Hwang and Oh, 2021;Karlinasari et al, 2021;Widyorini et al, 2016b). The application of materials with a high lengthto-thickness ratio (slenderness ratio) improves the bending properties compared with shorter and thicker materials (Iswanto et al, 2020;Kwon et al, 2013;Rofii et al, 2013Rofii et al, , 2016. Hwang and Oh (2020b) High-quality particleboard properties can be achieved by mixing particles of different shapes and sizes under optimal conditions.…”

“…Non-destruction and semi-destructive techniques for evaluating wood properties are capable of decreasing cost, energy, and time, and these are applied in solid and non-solid wood products (Jeong et al, 2016;Rofii et al, 2016;Hidayat et al, 2017). Moreover, Pilodyn was introduced as a non-destructive assessment method for density within the breeding program (Sprague, 1983;Woods et al, 1995;Hansen, 2000), as its penetration confers a significantly negative correlation (Taylor, 1981;Wei and Borralho, 1997;Wu et al, 2010;2011b).…”
