Dynamic modelling of a combined cycle power plant with ThermoSysPro

Abstract: A new open source Modelica library called "Ther-moSysPro" has been developed within the framework of the ITEA 2 EUROSYSLIB project. This library has been mainly designed for the static and dynamic modeling of power plants, but can also be used for other energy systems such as industrial processes, buildings, etc.To that end, the library contains over 100 0D/1D model components such as heat exchangers, steam and gas turbines, compressors, pumps, drums, tanks, volumes, valves, pipes, furnaces, combustion chamber… Show more

“…This case aims to evaluate the impact of the change in fuel supply to a closed cycle gas turbine (CCGT) on the system frequency using co-simulation. For this, we take two models in different energy domains: a dynamic closed cycle gas turbine (taken from [10]) for thermo-mechanical simulations, and the IEEE 9 bus system (modified from [11]) for electrical simulation. The models are tested on OpenModelica (OM) and exported as FMUs using inbuilt FMU Export function.…”

“…In order to assess the performances and dynamics of a whole CSP process integrating a storage system, a simulation model was developed within the Dymola platform [9], some of the classical thermo-hydraulic components were taken from the ThermosysPro Dymola library [10] but the innovative components such as the PCM storage module had to be modeled and validated. This simulation model of the PCM storage was proven to be able to reproduce the tests results and can therefore be used: at a component level, to optimize the geometry and materials of the finned tubes or of the inserts as long as the general figures of the heat exchanger (single pass, vertical bundle) are kept constant, at the process level, to predict the performances and to define the operating strategies of the commercial CSP plants [11].…”

“…This open source library, developed by EDF R&D, is used to model energy systems and different types of power plants (nuclear, conventional, solar, etc. ) (El Hefni 2014;El Hefni and Bouskela 2006;El Hefni et al 2011Deneux et al 2013). The Modelica model is developed in Dymola.…”
