Dynamic Modeling of a Hybrid Photovoltaic System with Hydrogen/Air PEM Fuel Cell

Abstract: In this study, a photovoltaic-electrolyser-fuel cell system was considered and simulated. This hybrid system produces hydrogen in the daytime and stores it in the storage tank in order to supply the required energy for the peak period of demand. Dynamic behavior of the process components was analyzed under different conditions. Transient simulation represents performance of the components and the system. Results can be used for improving the component’s efficiency and optimizing component’s size. The results o… Show more

“…In comparison to commonly used battery storage, electrolytic hydrogen (H 2 ) is well suited for seasonal storage applications because its inherent high mass energy density leakage from the storage tank is insignificant and it is easy to be installed anywhere [5]. In addition, the fuel cell generator, especially the PEMFC, is a good option to integrate with the SEC power since it is characterized with many good features such as high efficiency, fast response, modular production and fuel flexibility [6]. The combination of Fuel cell component with the ultra capacitor component is an attractive choice due to their high efficiency, fast load-response, flexible and modular structure for use with other alternative sources such as PV systems or wind turbines [7].…”

“…The total global investment in renewable these technologies in the recent years, many studies have energy from $220 billion in 2010 reached to $257 billion in been undertaken to enhance the performance of such 2011. Also by the end of 2011 the total renewable energy technologies [2][3][4][5][6]. capacity reached to 1, 360 GW with the most contribution Due to placement in the solar belt region of the world, belong to hydro power and wind power summing up to 970 Iran enjoys considerable solar radiation, so that the GW and 238 GW, respectively [1].…”
